My mother in law, who is in an assisted living community in Stamford, received a call from "her grandson", my son, and said "he was in an accident and needed her to wire money right away. He said that he had alcohol in the car, which immediately raised her awareness knowing my son doesn't drink. She called my husband, who checked to see that Harry was home, and said it was a scam.
Please, everyone, be aware that this happens all the time to our seniors, and that they are very easy to manipulate when they hear it's a grandchild. Thank goodness my mother in law knew to call us before wiring money. Even though she knows I am a geriatric care manager, seniors brains react differently to such bad news. BE AWARE!
